Sarah Jane Nielsen - House & Gardens magazine 'The List'

Nestling in the heart of the English Lake District, this stone-built family house sits in private grounds, enjoying stunning views over its own tarn. Keen to maximise the natural surroundings, the owners required a design solution that complemented the landscape outside their windows, whilst creating a refuge away from their demanding business commitments.

Their quest for classic simplicity resulted in this subtle yet sophisticated scheme of neutral tones and textures - but they also wanted to inject a touch of glamour, which we achieved with flashes of gold in sculptural lighting, mirror and accent pieces. Having worked with this client for 15 years, we adapt our designs to suit their evolving needs. A priority was the consideration of visiting grown-up children and grandchildren.

The large open plan living space lent itself to separate seating zones utilising the client’s own furniture with additional accessories carefully selected via our bespoke personal shopping service, adding a homely ambience to compliment the room’s purpose as a family lounge. Interiors should look fantastic, but we believe should also retain the client’s individual personalities, reflecting their own life journeys. With their passion for travel in mind, we included a wooden trunk for use as a coffee table, which also doubles up as handy storage for toys when the youngest generation calls in.

We adopted the same approach throughout the house which resulted in a turnkey project that exceeded our client’s expectations.
