Says Michael: “I knew when I originally took on the part of Edna that she was going to be a big part of my life, in every way, but I never realised just how big. Hairspray is truly one of the greatest experiences of my career and the chance to have just a few more nights in those frocks was an opportunity I couldn’t miss! With so much on I’m unable to do all dates, but I promise that we’ll have some brilliant performers lined up for our UK tour. Moving forward, to now be working as an associate producer with Stage Entertainment developing new shows, new roles and new opportunities in the future is an honour, and something I can’t wait to get stuck in to.”
Michael's last album, Past & Present, has sold in excess of 300,000 copies and his latest live dvd topped the dvd charts in the first week of release. Michael's BBC Radio 2 show, 'Michael Ball's Sunday Brunch' sees a lively mix of music, chat, guests and film and TV reviews; in February Michael starts rehearsals for a national tour of HAIRSPRAY, for which he will be reunited with his alter-ego, the fabulous Edna Turnblad of Baltimore, MA.
Michael’s West End credits include Marius in Cameron Mackintosh and the RSC’s production of Les Miserables, Raoul in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, Alex in Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love (and on Broadway), Giorgio in Stephen Sondheim's musical Passion, his award winning Count Fosco in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Woman In White (and on Broadway) and the Olivier Award winning Edna Turnblad in the smash West End production of Hairspray.
