ALISON BURNS, smoky jazz singer par excellence and a new name on the jazz scene, has just released her debut album, 'KISSING BUG'. Discovered by virtuoso jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, Alison recorded her album with Martin and his Freternity supergroup - Guy Barker (trumpet), David Newton (piano), Steve Brown (drums) and Ewan Vernal (bass) - at Park Lane Studios in Glasgow (Pet Shop Boys, Wet Wet Wet, Texas).
'KISSING BUG' features some classic tracks, all of which are favourites of Alison. "We decided to call the album 'Kissing Bug' because it reminds me of when I first heard it by the great June Christy, one of my all time favourite singers; it's such a quirky song and we had a lot of fun recording it. I also love 'The Good Life' which was written by the late Sacha Distel, a fantastic musician and composer. 'The Way You Look Tonight' was originally performed by the fabulous Dinning Sisters who I had the pleasure of performing with in New York a few years ago."
Alison Burns will be appearing at:-
March 9th and 10th at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival with the BBC Big Band
March 22nd - Edinburgh, The Lot
April 16th - Maidenhead, the RoyalOak
April 28th and 29th - The Famous Bein Inn at Glenfarg with Martin Taylor |
