auditions
being held across UK and Europe
DV8
PHYSICAL THEATRE, led by Artistic Director Lloyd Newson, will
tour in 2011
with a new work which looks at the issues surrounding freedom
of speech, censorship and offence. The company was nominated
for an Olivier Award 2009 for 'To Be Straight With You', an
unflinching exploration of tolerance, intolerance, religion
and sexuality. 'To Be Straight With You' was based on
hundreds of hours of audio interviews collected throughout
the UK.
"DV8…have
always been well ahead of the game. Now, just at a point
when others are catching up, Newson reinvents the rules with
this piece led by verbatim theatre based on 85 interviews
with those who have experienced homophobia, have strict religious
beliefs or who are juggling their sexuality with their faith....To
Be Straight With You is a hard hitting and passionate 80 minutes
that expresses what is often left unsaid…you will not
be able to resist the music or this brave, life-affirming
show."
